If you’re not working or you don’t have health coverage from a current employer or spouse’s current employer, you’ll generally want to enroll in Medicare when you turn 65 to help avoid penalties and gaps in coverage.
Enroll in Medicare Parts A & B
Consider Part D prescription drug coverage
Choose between Original Medicare with supplemental coverage or a Medicare Advantage plan

If you have health coverage through your or your spouse’s current employer, you may be able to delay Part B without a penalty. The rules depend on the type of coverage and employer size, so it’s important to review your situation before making a decision.

If you contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA), Medicare requires some additional planning. Once your Medicare coverage begins, you generally can no longer contribute to an HSA. Medicare Part A can also be retroactive in certain situations, so the timing of your last HSA contribution matters.

Turning 65 comes with a lot of decisions, but you don’t have to figure them out on your own. We’ll help you understand Medicare, review your options, and create a clear path forward based on your needs and priorities.
